My pembroke welsh corgi, who is only 1.5 years old, had three (possibly more) seizures in 24 hours. I didn’t see the seizures personally until I was going to bed and he suddenly started seizing. I saw the other seizures through replaying my security camera footage. His seizure lasted around 1 minute. I called the emergency vet and they told me these were cluster seizures and that I should take him in if he had 3 or more in under 24 hours. I eventually took him in and they did tests on him to figure out the cause of it. Everything came back normal and the vet told me that it could most likely be epileptic but won’t know for sure unless an MRI is done. However an MRI is around $3500. Since being discharged he has been given Keppra 250mg three times a day and 8 hours between each dose. It has been 2 days and he has not had a single seizure and he is just tire a bit more often. Other than that his eats, drinks, plays, and sleeps just fine and with a lot of energy. I am just concerned that I will not be able to constantly feed him Keppra every 8 hours due to my schedule or work for the rest of his life. Is there any medication that is safe (no other damage to other organs like the liver) and has a long period between each dose? Also is it possible to ween him off Keppra and have the seizures stop? The vet told me that some dogs can take the medication and they will not have seizures afterwards. Any advise from anyone is greatly appreciated and I would be grateful for any and all suggestions!!!
