Hi, this is my first post here. Looking forward to any comments/opinion.
My dog was spayed on 22June and her muscle sutures broke 3 days later and she was operated again to restitch that on 28June. She was being given injectables everyday after the first surgery and she really exerted herself a lot during those trips to the vet because she is extremely scared of the vet and fights really really hard when being held down to give the injections. The doctor thinks that is what caused the muscle sutures to break.
Now we are a week past the second surgery and everything looks fine so far. The doctor says the sutures will be removed 3 days from now but he says it is advisable we do it with her under anesthesia. I think after the last complication, he is concerned about things getting messed up again if she fights like she usually does. He says it will hurt a bit and my dog really has zero pain tolerance, starts jumping like crazy at the slightest pinch. I am really worried about her going under a third time. I understand this is not usual. What do people here think?
It isn't usual but remember they are using a sharp blade and the stitches will be quite small, so it is fiddly with a wriggly dog. If they think a sedative wouldn't be enough, an anaesthetic might be safer. And, she won't be as stressed while the procedure is actually happening so that might help for future vet visits (and after Covid restrictions are eased, it might be worth calling into the vet regularly just for a visit and a treat, to try to make it less of an ordeal when she needs treatment).
